Who is ECMT?

We are a not-for-profit organisation who provide training to those aspiring to join or already working within the Maritime Industry. With over 40 years experience in training, we have a wealth of knowledge and expertise that prospective and experienced seafarers call upon in progressing their careers.

  • What areas do we cover?

    Ports covered by our area of operation include Redcar, Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington, Hornsea, Withernsea, Easington & Grimsby. If requested we deliver courses in other parts of the UK. We also deliver Safety Training to crews of British Registered Fishing Vessels abroad.

  • How do we work?

    To provide our services we deliver Seafish funded and non-funded training. We also deliver RYA, STCW & MCA approved courses to Fishermen and other seafarers both in the UK and abroad. We are currently working with Hull Maritime Project in running multiple fully funded Maritime Futures - 3 Week Introduction to Maritime Industry courses.

  • What do we provide?

    We have all the necessary equipment needed to deliver the training we provide. Our training set-up is designed to be completely mobile, enabling us to deliver training anywhere in the UK and even abroad. Bringing training to the customer is very successful and efficient; saving customers time, travel and money.

  • Who does ECMT comprise of?

    Kim Jensen, our Training Manager/Company Secretary who has been a member of the team for over 40 years. Kim works closely with Steven Wood, our Admin Assistant in the office and within the training venues. Our instructors are both self employed;

    Len Jensen, is a highly experienced Trainer and Fisheries Consultant. Len holds all the relevant qualifications to meet our training needs and has over 25 years experience as a Fisherman/Vessel Owner and joined us as an instructor in 1992.

    Keir Day, is also an experienced Trainer and Fisheries Consultant. Keir specialised in Seamanship and Safety during his 10 years in the Royal Navy, then gained 9 years industry experience as a fishing skipper. He then spent 12 years in Training & Development before becoming an instructor and joining us in 2014.

  • Who do we provide for?

    We pride ourselves on the excellent working relationships we have with independent fishermen, whether they are New Entrants or Experienced Fishermen. We also have connections with a range of fishing companies & organisations that we provide training for.

  • What responsibilities do we have?

    Our responsibilities are to promote accessibility, equality, sustainability and overall, to encourage a safe-working environments in the maritime industry through ongoing training and support. As part of our responsibilities as Training Providers, we hold fully comprehensive specialist insurance. This policy includes Employer/Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.

Our Team

As a not-for-profit organisation our team comprises of the following; Chairman, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Training Manager/Company Secretary, Self Employed Instructors & an Administration Assistant. Here at ECMT, we have over 150 years industry experience between us.
